I am a lyric soprano based in Los Angeles, beginning to establish myself in the opera world.

Although I was born to sing, my passion for music warred with my compassion for humanity for many years; how could I justify devoting my life to opera, an art form considered antiquated and alienating by many, rather than to social works benefitting a wider spectrum of mankind? But I have come to know that opera, in addition to providing beauty, catharsis, and escape to audiences, can be used for the greater good. I can attribute part of this revelation to a class I took a few years ago with the revolutionary and controversial opera director Peter Sellars, who gave me hope for the professional world I will be a part of. My ambition is to change the perception of opera as we know it: to show the public the face of the art form I have come to love, and to make it relevant and exciting again. I think I am ideally suited to bridge the gap between bygone eras and those yet to come. My schooling provided me with extensive training in theatrical acting and I can enrich the characters in opera’s grand stories with my experience. I get to make use of the languages I studied with such relish in school, and satisfy my love of poetry as well. Most importantly of all, I can touch people with my singing, instantly create a visceral response in them that may provoke them to think later. I aspire to a career as an opera performer respected in my field, participating in both faithful and fanciful productions around the world.
